Trauma Therapy in Berlin – Online and In Person
Distressing or traumatic experiences can have a lasting impact on life. Some people notice persistent changes after a single event, while others struggle with the effects of prolonged stressful experiences. Trauma therapy can help process what has happened, develop new coping strategies and regain a greater sense of safety and quality of life.
What is trauma?
Trauma can occur when a person experiences a situation involving intense fear, helplessness or overwhelm, and when their own ability to cope is exceeded. Traumatic experiences can be very different and are processed individually by each person.
Possible traumatic experiences may include:
- physical or sexual violence,
- accidents or workplace accidents,
- medical procedures or serious illness,
- sudden losses,
- distressing childhood experiences,
- other exceptionally stressful life events.
Not every distressing experience leads to trauma. However, if symptoms persist over a longer period of time and affect everyday life, psychotherapeutic support can be helpful.
When can trauma therapy be helpful?
Traumatic experiences can show up in different ways. Common difficulties may include:
- recurring distressing memories,
- anxiety and inner tension,
- sleep difficulties,
- avoidance behaviour,
- concentration difficulties,
- depressive moods,
- feelings of guilt or shame,
- difficulties in relationships or everyday life.
The aim of trauma therapy is to reduce the impact of distressing experiences and to strengthen personal resources and coping strategies.
My therapeutic approach
I work with cognitive behavioural therapy and trauma-focused methods that have been scientifically examined and shown to be effective. Depending on the individual situation, different trauma-specific approaches may be used, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Imagery Rescripting and Reprocessing Therapy (IRRT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Which methods are appropriate in each individual case depends on your symptoms, your goals and the course of therapy.
A trusting and respectful therapeutic relationship forms the foundation of therapy. My aim is to create a safe framework in which distressing experiences can be processed step by step and new perspectives can develop.
In trauma therapy, we work with the memories and experiences that are accessible to you and that are currently distressing. The aim of treatment is to understand and cope with the consequences of distressing experiences. The focus is not on searching for hypothetical or non-remembered events, but on working together with the memories, feelings and symptoms that influence your current experience.
