“I see psychotherapy as support for long-term self-help. As a behavioural therapist, I support you in better understanding distressing patterns of thought and behaviour and changing them in a lasting way.”
In an appreciative and trusting atmosphere, we develop a shared understanding of your current difficulties as well as concrete goals for psychotherapy. It is important to me to include your personal resources and strengths and to use them purposefully within the therapeutic process.
Change often happens not only within therapy sessions, but also in everyday life between appointments. Through therapeutic preparation and reflection, you are supported in trying out new behaviours, questioning distressing thought patterns and gathering new experiences.
Another focus of therapy is developing a helpful long-term way of dealing with difficult emotions. Alongside methods of modern behavioural therapy, I also work with mindfulness-based approaches, for example mindful self-compassion. If useful, body-oriented interventions or practical exercises for social situations can also be part of therapy.
It is important to me to develop, together with you, an understanding and self-accepting attitude towards your individual difficulties and burdens. The aim of treatment is to find new ways of dealing with personal challenges and to reduce psychological distress in a lasting way.
As a trauma therapist, one of my treatment focuses is trauma-related disorders, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The aim of therapy is to sustainably reduce the psychological consequences of distressing and traumatic experiences, as well as the emotional burden associated with them.
Treatment may include imaginal and/or real-life confrontation with the traumatic experience. Distressing event-related thoughts are also addressed, and avoidance behaviour is gradually reduced. This can help develop a more helpful way of dealing with what happened and reduce the emotional burden.
In therapy, I work with methods including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Imagery Rescripting and Reprocessing Therapy (IRRT) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). The selection of therapeutic techniques is individual and guided by your personal needs and goals.
As I hold an additional qualification in group therapy, I also offer group therapy when there are enough participants. Group therapy offers the opportunity to exchange experiences with others and to reduce feelings of fear and shame related to one’s own difficulties. It also allows therapeutic techniques such as role-play to be practised within the group setting.
